Ornate Hand-Carved Window Surrounds, Window and Door Casings, and Columns

The carving designs for this new home in Chicago’s western suburbs were inspired by ornate carving done 100 years ago for an elegant mansion in New York City. The carved elements were re-proportioned to fit the new construction, and clay models of the most ornate sections were made for review by the client prior to carving. All work was done in Indiana limestone, which is able to weather Chicago’s harsh winters. Included in the scope of work was an elaborate, columned entryway with a pediment, three ornate window surrounds, each featuring a hand-carved face, and a variety of simpler window and door casings, all beveled for added effect.
